How to prepare a small-group Bible study.
Begin by reading the passage yourself, including the surrounding chapter. Note who is speaking, who is listening, and whether you are reading poetry, narrative, a letter, or another kind of writing. These observations give your discussion somewhere to stand.
Choose a few questions that move from noticing the text to considering its meaning. Where Christians understand a passage differently, make space to examine the passages behind those readings. Let people pass on personal questions.
Review the leader notes before the meeting. Print the participant version when you are ready: it includes the reading references, opening question, discussion questions, and take-home reading. Context, interpretive discussion, and sensitive leader notes stay in the leader copy.
Read our guide to Scripture in contextFour questions to bring to the text.
Read Psalm 23 together before using these prompts. They are prepared discussion questions, rather than a claim to settle every reading of the psalm.
- What does the shepherd do in verses 1–3?
- What changes in the way the speaker addresses God in verse 4?
- Why might the presence of enemies at the table matter?
- What would you like to read more slowly before applying the psalm?
The complete example includes the leader context and a separate participant sheet. You can download either as an HTML document and use your browser’s Print action to save a PDF.

Build a preparation library together.
A Church Team owner can invite four other leaders using invitations tied to their sign-in email. Publish a saved leader kit into your shared library and give it a title and series. Other members can reuse it and download participant sheets with your church’s name.
Publishing shares the kit, including its leader notes, with your team. Personal questions, journals, and reflections stay outside that library. Review a kit before publishing it, and use the participant sheet when sharing beyond your leaders.
Start with the way you prepare.
Group Leader is designed for one person preparing discussions: $99 per year or $11.99 per month. Church Team includes five leader seats and a shared library: $299 per year at the founding rate, or $39.99 per month. Taxes and renewal terms appear at checkout when membership sales open.
You can explore the workspace through a seven-day trial without a card or automatic subscription. The free Question Library remains available separately. Your church’s judgment and care for its members remain central; the app does not replace pastoral guidance.
